This skippable A0 planet prepares a complete beginner for practical Mandarin A1. It does not teach an alphabet before the language: Mandarin has no alphabetic writing system. Instead, you meet Standard Mandarin speech, Simplified Chinese characters, and Hanyu Pinyin together from the first tower.

Pinyin is temporary reading and keyboard support written with the Latin alphabet. Tone marks help you connect a written syllable to a recording, but the characters remain the course's primary written target. The clickable Mandarin line—not an English respelling—is the pronunciation model.

Your Route

The eight towers build one compact foundation:

1. The Mandarin Syllable — hear initials, finals, and tone inside useful whole words.
2. Tones and Meaning — distinguish the four lexical tones and neutral tone without guessing meaning from tone alone.
3. Sound Contrasts and Connected Speech — hear high-value consonant contrasts, common tone changes, and familiar word groups.
4. How Chinese Characters Work — distinguish characters, syllables, components, and words while treating structural clues cautiously.
5. Recognizing, Writing, and Typing — recognize and copy a small useful inventory, then select intended characters with Pinyin input.
6. First Contact — greet, exchange names, use basic courtesy, and repair one immediate misunderstanding.
7. Numbers and Essential Information — use zero through ten and short practical digit sequences.
8. Listening Survival and Repair — locate the controlling detail in a short exchange and ask one precise clarification.

Towers open in the recommended order. Future towers remain visible as locked previews until reached; opened towers and completed lesson rooms can be revisited. Each lesson room contains one article and exactly three questions. Room counts follow the teaching need rather than a fixed quota.

A Practical A0 Method

For each new item, connect four things: what you hear, the characters, tone-marked Pinyin, and one immediate meaning. Replay short lines, compare only the feature owned by the lesson, and verify uncertain details instead of relying on an English sound approximation.

At the end, a readiness check samples sound, tones, script, typing, first contact, numbers, and repair. It helps you choose between entering A1 and revisiting a specific tower; it does not certify fluency or general A1 competence.
