THE NOUSFARER FIELD GUIDE

The Nousdex & Museum

Collect more than 400 artworks that changed the world, browse them in the Nousdex, and show them in your ship's museum.

The Nousdex is your catalogue of artworks that changed the world: more than 400 sculptures, paintings, reliefs and monuments, from the ice-age Lion Man to Bosch and Turner. You meet them on your travels, learn their stories, collect them, and show them in the museum aboard your ship.

Meeting and collecting pieces

Artworks stand in the cities’ parks and in the towers’ halls, and they guard the towers’ storeys. Walk up to one and press E to read its story: that meets the piece. Answer its question and it is collected into your Nousdex. Your first piece, the Lion Man, is collected during your first steps aboard.

The Nousdex

Open the Nousdex at the great bookwheel in the palace museum, or from the menu.

The Nousdex: a grid of picture cards on the left, the Lion Man in colour with a green tick and the others as dark silhouettes, and on the right the Lion Man turning, with Place in the museum, Go and see it and Read its story.
Collected pieces in colour with a tick; pieces you have not met yet as silhouettes.
  • Collected pieces show in colour with a green tick; pieces you have met but not collected have a gold dot; pieces you have not met yet are dark silhouettes.
  • Mine shows the pieces you have met; All shows the whole catalogue. The kind buttons (Sculptures, Wall art, Monuments) narrow it, and the magnifier searches by title, kind or date.
  • Choose a piece to see it turn, read its story, and see what you can do with it. Its dates, maker, place and rights are under Details.

Showing pieces in the museum

Placing the Lion Man: a Place on the first free pedestal button above a map of the sculpture gallery from above, six numbered gold rings marking the pedestals.
The gallery from above: gold rings are free places; tap one to place the piece.

Choose Place in the museum on a collected piece. A map of the gallery shows its places where they really stand: pedestals for sculptures, walls for paintings and reliefs, projection tables for monuments. Free places pulse in gold; taken ones show their piece. Tap a free place, or choose Place on the first free pedestal. Tap a taken place to put your piece there instead, or to take a piece down. The same piece can stand in several places.

Then choose Go and see it: a gold marker appears over the place and a light trail leads you there.

The sculpture gallery aboard the palace: lapis pedestals under glass cloches round a circular room, the captain walking in.
The sculpture gallery: each pedestal waits for a piece you collect.

Portraits of scholars

Portraits of great scholars hang aboard the ship. Press E at one to read the scholar’s card: who they were and the ideas they are remembered for.
