THE NOUSFARER FIELD GUIDE
Troubleshooting
What to do when Nousfarer runs slowly, something will not load, or the game shows an error.
Nousfarer is a 3D game that runs in your browser, so its speed depends on your device, browser and connection. Most problems have a quick fix.
What you need
- An up-to-date web browser with hardware acceleration (graphics acceleration) turned on in its settings.
- An internet connection while you play. The universe, its lessons and your progress load from Noosaga, so the game does not work offline.
- A computer with a keyboard gives the best experience. Phones and tablets are supported with touch controls, but large scenes run more slowly on them.
If the game feels slow
Open the game menu (Esc, or tap ☰), choose Display, and pick a lower graphics quality:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Auto | Recommended. Picks a preset for your device. |
| Performance | Smoother flight and longer battery life. |
| Balanced | Moderate detail and effects for everyday play. |
| Quality | Richer worlds and sharper distant detail. Needs a capable graphics card. |
Closing other heavy browser tabs and plugging in a laptop also help. If you choose a higher preset than Auto recommends, the game warns you but still applies your choice.
If something is still preparing
The first visit to a place can take longer than a return visit. Messages such as Preparing concept rooms or Preparing quizzes mean content is being made ready for you; saved content is reused next time.
The universe has uneven coverage. An institute’s introduction can open before all of its rooms are ready, and articles and quizzes may prepare just ahead of you as you study. During travel and landing, a cloud or loading cover can stay up while the destination finishes preparing.
If you see an error
Use the retry or recovery button the game shows. If it keeps failing, reload the page. Signed-in progress is saved with your account; guest progress is not.
Report a problem
Email axel@noosaga.com with:
- your browser and device,
- where you were in the game (for example the planet, institute or ship room),
- what you were trying to do,
- the exact error message, if one appeared.
For a mistake in a lesson or quiz rather than a technical problem, see Report a problem in Trust & Provenance.
